What's the frequency, Karl?

This site is a clearinghouse for discussion of whether President Bush uses an earpiece through which he's fed lines and cues by offstage advisers. His speech rhythms suggest this, as do some of his word choices and interjections, and his constantly shifting eye movements while speaking. And there's another form of evidence: Television viewers have sometimes heard another voice speaking Bush's words before he says them. When Bush spoke at D-Day ceremonies in France last June, for example, viewers watching on CNN, Fox and MSNBC, including mediachannel.org's Danny Schechter, were startled to hear another voice speaking Bush's words as if to prompt him. [POST SCRIPT, SUNDAY 10/10: As discussed above, this may have been due to the use of a live voice "repeater" accidentally broadcast over a slightly delayed "live" broadcast. We'll take off this part of the discussion until we determine that is otherwise.]

Reporters should have looked into this long ago. But for the past four years through Bush's first debate last week with John Kerry -- and even in the days after the debate -- the press has ignored the evidence of its eyes and ears, and failed to ask whether the president secretly relies on unseen handlers for some public events, including press conferences. If Bush wore a hidden earpiece to cheat in this way during his first debate with John Kerry (however unsuccessfully), it is urgent that the fraud be exposed before the election.

The agreement set by the debate commission barred shots of the candidates from the rear of the stage -- a provision reportedly demanded by RNC negotiator James Baker. (It also specified only hardwired podium microphones for the first debate, i.e. no lapel mics.) The networks refused to comply with the camera angle rules, broadcasting occasional shots of the candidates from behind. The images here are from the Fox video pool feed.

Many viewers thus saw a squarish bulge the size of a large battery pack under the back of Bush's suit jacket, with an S-shaped cord appearing to snake up the right side of his back. Several blogs have carried speculation that it was an audio receiver.

A poster to NYCIndymedia says, "Think 'passive transducer' earpiece." He writes, "The bulges under his jacket are likely receiver/repeaters that pick up the transmitter (and encrypted?) signals from his handlers and transmit them, at very low power, to the earpiece."

"Sure, Bush uses an earpiece sometimes," a top Washington editor for Reuters said to me last spring. "State of the Union -- he had an earpiece for that. Everybody knows it," he said, or assumes it. But everybody doesn't know it, I said. Why hadn't Reuters investigated? The editor shrugged and said it wasn't so different from using a teleprompter.

Except that a teleprompter isn't a secret. And Americans have the right to know if the president can't or won't speak in public without covert assistance.

Television hosts and news anchors wear earpieces, called IFBs (for internal [or interruptible] foldback, or feedback) which fit in the ear canal and are almost invisibly small, to receive cues from their producers. (Language scientists say that "shadowing," repeating the words someone else is speaking, is not at all difficult, but it is difficult not to move your eyes when listening.) Television journalists would be likely to spot the use of an IFB or at least to suspect it. So, why haven't they raised the question? I suspect it's untouchable in part because asking the question now points up all the years they let go by without asking it.

But these are the questions that must be asked now, by the Commission on Presidential Debates, and journalists: Does the president use an earpiece in his meetings with the public and with journalists? Did he wear one in last week's debate? How can members of the public who suspect he wore an earpiece be assured that he will not do so in the next debate? What was the object underneath his jacket?

Postscript, Friday a.m: Salon just posted a story in which the debate commission confirms the candidates were not equipped with wireless mics, and that it doesn't know what the object on Bush's back was.

A documentary maker explains why he thinks Bush is wired for sound.Discussion of audio "shadowing" here. A news photograph from July 7 shows Bush with another odd bulge at the back of his jacket. The suspicions of Veritas were aroused by a moment in Bush's December 2003 news conference. Here is an excerpt from his post :

Q I know you said there will be a time for politics. But you've also said you wanted to change the tone in Washington. Howard Dean recently seemed to muse aloud whether you had advance knowledge of 9/11. Do you agree or disagree with the RNC that this kind of rhetoric borders on political hate speech?

THE PRESIDENT: There's time for politics. There's time for politics, and I -- it's an absurd insinuation.

- White House Press Conference, Dec. 15

A funny thing happened at the December 15th presidential press conference. Asked to comment on an earlier statement by Howard Dean regarding his alleged foreknowledge of 9/11, Bush stumbles about the stage, clearly caught off guard by the question, then delivers the line: "It's an absurd asinuation."

...it could not be more clear that Bush was provided the words with which to answer. At first, Bush stumbles about, repeating his previous line that "there's a time for politics." During this time, he's avoiding eye contact, shrugging, and delaying. Then, the answer is given to him, presumably through a wireless ear piece. Bush then suddenly delivers his line that "it's an absurd asinuation." The suddenness of his reply, after having been speechless, the smile in his eyes when he's given the correct answer, and his incorrect pronunciation of the word "insinuation" all lead to [the] conclusion that he was prompted to provide this answer.

About This Blog

IsBushWired was created by a journalist with twenty+ years of experience in print, radio and television. It originated during the first debate, when I noticed a boxy shape under the president's jacket. As a viewer, I had previously suspected Bush of being coached via an earpiece in interviews and news conferences, because his language rhythms, strange pauses, and sudden access to facts or phrases were like nothing I'd ever seen. That was far from my mind when I watched the first debate, however. Although I've written or worked for some of the best news outlets in the country (and never had to retract or apologize for a story, either) I've chosen to remain anonymous here in order to keep the focus on the story rather than on the messenger, and to hold at bay Rove's squads and Freepers, who like nothing more than to personalize issues that they can't defend based on the facts.

Kick ass story, but just one small correction -- I got the video to work for the Bush/Chirac press conference (open RealPlayer and enter this address in the "Open Location" box: http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/06/20040605-6.v.smil). The "phantom voice" is just part of Bush's comment where he leans away from his mike -- you can see him mouthing the words in the video. This doesn't explain any of the *other* evidence, but this one was just a fluke.

I suggest you put the photos and your summary of the issue at the top of the site, followed by the discussion! It was much clearer yesterday before all of those postings. People need to know the basics first. BUT... MANY THANKS FOR BRINGING THIS OUT! Let's hope the "mainstream" media pick it up.

I agree that the layout needs improvement (to add clarity) but I am really writing to reveal the obvious source of The Voice.

Haven't Bush fans claimed that Bush was put in place by Pop o' Jesus?

Hasn't Bush himself said that Pop o' Jesus instructed Bush to attack various countries?

Hasn't Bush himself said that Pop o' Jesus speaks to/thru Bush?

Well done for gathering all this stuff together. It really is a remarkable story. I watched the debate after seeing this site, and once you know what you're looking at, it becomes transparently obvious that he's taking prompts. The sheer gall of the man! (or the administration?)

This information should be disseminated widely.

Nws Flash: Presidents don't write their own speeches. What's the difference between memorizing something and reciting it later and getting streaming prompts? Nothing. Give me a break.

So that covers 90% of your evidence. As for being wired in a debate, I suppose that's another story. Either way, with or without, Kerry still won - so if Bush was trying to 'cheat', he didnt succede.

Personally, though, I wouldn't base my presidental vote on a canidates debating skills - I'd base it on their platform, and the ability to implement it.

The person I was watching with and I both noticed a strange bulkiness to his suit from the front as well. I suspect the lumpiness might be adequately explained by heavy-duty body armor. Check out the way this looks on cops, from the back, when you get the chance. Law of parsimony and all.

I listened to the first part of the debate on radio and it was very noticeable that between fumbling remarks and disoriented speech by the president came periods of extreme lucidity. I even made a remark about it to my partner after watching the rest of the debate on TV that it seemed to me that the president might be wired. So, I was very surprised to start reading about it on this site and Dave Lindorff's articles in Salon and Axis of Logic that other people think so too!

It's common for those who care a lot about appearance (actors, models during photo shoots, etc.) to wear a large clip in the back of their dress shirt. This keeps the material tight and stops the shirt from "bunching up" in front. The bulge is exactly where this would be worn, and the "S" shape is most likely just the shirt being bunched up in back. The wire to cause that overt a shape would be enormous. Anyone could hide their iPod's earphone cable under a suit jacket.

There's no way Bush's handlers would have placed a battery in such an obvious location, or used such a large one (how long does your teeny tiny cell phone's battery last?)

This is just to provide a voice of reason among conspiracy theorists pouncing upon this particular picture.

No participant may bring writings "or any tangible thing" into the debate. A wire and an earpiece should certainly qualify as tangible things.

My first impression in looking at the photo is that it's an outline of a bullet-proof vest underneath his suit.

It's an unfortunate reality that today my high-ranking government officials wear bullet-proof vests under their suits. They're not always comfortable and they add bulk.

I will qualify my comments by saying that I'm no expert in assessing how a suit hangs over an object beneath it (other than spending about a dozen years in political circles and seeing the vests used by political figures a handful of times).

I'm also voting third party this year (in a non-swing state) but rooting for Kerry.

Preface: I am not a Bush supporter, and will be voting for Kerry come November 2nd. I worked in theatrical sound for several years, and am familiar with wireless mics and earpieces, although I am by no means an expert.

This charge is equally as ludicrous as the Kerry pen charge. Well, let me rephrase. The proof that you are using is ludicrous.

Wireless transceivers are NEVER attached between the shoulderblades. They are usually clipped to the back of the belt or strapped to the small of the back--the places they are least likely to show up through clothes. Putting almost anything in that spot in the screencaps all but guarantees it will show up as soon as the person moves their shoulders forward. On top of that, the speaker wire would not be run over the shoulder, for a similar reason. Done correctly, it would probably run up the side to their armpit and across the back of the jacket seam on the shoulder. A snake coil would most certainly not be used--I can't remember ever seeing one on a wireless theater mic, for the exact same reason of that it will show up too easily.

It also just doesn't make any logical sense. We're talking about the President of the US, who stands to lose a lot were he caught doing this. You don't think the CIA has a wireless receiver that fits inside the ear, entirely invisible except when you look directly at it at close range? Ask anyone who wears hearing aids--the technology certainly exists.

Were this to be true, with the proof you're using, it would such a catastrophically stupid move from the Bush campaign that they practically don't deserve to be on the ballot.

I don't know what it is, but the clip idea is the first sensible idea I've seen put forth.

The bottom line is that both sides are being stupid. Why don't we all follow the original intent of moveon.org, and move on to things more important, like Iraq or stem cell research?

Thanks for doing this.

I'm not buying the suspenders, fabric clip, or bullet-proof vest ideas because I think the greatest possible care would have been taken to make sure the president looked good. If not a transmitter, I lean toward the back brace idea: he might wear it in a debate to help him stay on his feet with good posture, and the administration might not be willing to fess up to such a "weakness." Also, if someone was feeding him lines, why wasn't his performance better than it was?

Anyway, 'cause I want the guy to loose, I'll spread the word and keep my eyes peeled. Oh, to catch him in a big cheat!

New York Times just posted a brief report on the earpiece question. Please email this to your friends and get it on the top emailed list! Maybe it will move into the mainstream then instead of move to the background. This president isn't articulate enough to say his name without stumbling--I doubt he knows what the Dredd Scott case is or would be able to throw it off the cuff in a debate. And it is important whether a president can debate. I don't want a president who is simply a dumb puppet to (and product of) a tyrranical corporate regime.

When I watched the debate this evening, I paid close attention to the president's eyes. They moved back and forth a lot, almost as if he were listening to a microphone planted in his ear and not Kerry. A microphone feed may also explain some of Bush's odd facial expressions during the past two debates. I also noticed that while Kerry spoke, Bush hardly wrote anyting down. Very interesting....

A couple of official debate rules that invite more review now:

================================================
Tuesday, September 21, 2004 Posted: 1:15 AM EDT (0515 GMT)
(CNN) -- Here are highlights of some of the rules laid out in the 32-page agreement on the three presidential debates ahead of the November election.

No television camera shots from behind the candidates and no cutaway shots of candidates who are not answering questions.

NO SHOTS FROM BEHIND! WHO ASKED FOR THAT? AND I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST VANITY ABOUT BALD SPOTS...

Other than a handshake at the start of the debates, the candidates are not to approach each other.

SURE..YOU DON'T WANT TO RISK ANY PATS ON THE BACK OR ANYTHING EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE TO A HUG WHEN YOU'RE BACK-PACKING ELECTONICS.

Other than Secret Service personnel and the president's doctor and military aide, each candidate is allowed to have only one pre-designated staff member in the wings or the immediate backstage area.

CAN WE FIND OUT WHAT ONE PERSON WAS IN THE WINGS FOR BUSH?

Said a Bush campaign spokeswoman: "It was most likely a rumpling of that portion of his suit jacket, or a wrinkle in the fabric."

A rumpling? A wrinkle? Come on. Bush was hunched forward, clearly stretching the fabric of his suit. For a suit to misbehave like this, the tailoring has got to be very, very clumsy. Even an off-the-rack bargain from K-Mart wouldn't do that.

I don't know whether the bulge is a hidden receiver or something innocent but there's one thing I know for sure: Someone is hurting very much right now. I am talking about Monsieur Georges de Paris, tailor to the presidents, old school perfectionist, passionate craftsman, a Living National Treasure if this were Japan.

"Georges de Paris, tailor to every President since Lyndon Johnson, [...] has a TV tuned to CNN (with the sound turned off) in his shop because he "likes to catch his suits' television appearances" says the September 19's edition of the New Yorker.

Monsier de Paris now stands accused of the ultimate crime: shoddy worksmanship. He must be completely devastated. I just hope he does not do anything rash. The insensitivity and ruthlessness of the Bush campaign absolutely astounds me.

No mention has been made whether the 32 page debate rules prohibit a reciever and earpiece. This is an excellent example of technology and political consultants changing American politics. Do the experts believe this is the trend for the future as transmitters and receivers diminish in size? Is this news to the Democrats, or was the real problem in Bush's first debate just "static" from the Kerry consultants?

I think both Bush and Kerry are, at times, phonies. However, Kerry's policies make a trillion times more sense to me. And all of Bush's policies can be, though maybe not always fairly, construed to help the wealthiest and better connected citizens, industries and corporations of America. The working man and woman are the majority in this country and I think they deserve better representation than that.

Now, that being said, this whole Bush being wired idea seems hysterically loopy. If it proved true, it would be a disaster for us as a nation to be represented by a con man.

This site lacks investigative objectivity though. The postings are obviously partisan nonsense on both sides.

And after watching the Bush/Chirac press conference I'm even less convinced of this story. Bush is obviously the echoed voice. The same phrases are pronounced with the same infliction. The same accents are clearly audible. The same words are mispronounced(nucealar). He's a poor public speaker. No doubt about it. But this conspiracy's wanting.

I'm gonna do what our vice president was unable to do correctly in the vp debate, direct you all to FactCheck.org -

The rules for the debate state:
No cameras to show the back of the candidates.
The candidates will use the microphones on the podiums, and will not wear wireless mikes for the networks.

I have to wonder why is it that for just $2,700 American dollars you too can have the exact same wireless device that the President (probably?) wore on the first debate.

It even HAS THE RIDGE DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE BACK PLATE.

To have a President that attempts to do this in a National Debate, may the Lord have mercy on America's soul.

I found Bush's comment about the Dredd Scott case amusing. Now, how many NON lawyer or even lawyer types would think about this particular case when discussing legislation from the bench? Surely Pleussy vs Ferguson would be a better example for the point.

Besides, from hind-sight, Dredd is an atrocious decision. For the time, however, Dredd DID actually follow the Constitution as it was at written and interpreted the time. Remember the 3/5ths compromise???

Slaves WERE considered property at the time of Dredd. The Dredd decision was made bsed on the LAWS at the TIME.

Maybe he feels that Dredd was a wrong decision, but that the SEPERATE BUT EQUAL ruling of Pleussy SHOULD be the law of the land!!!

ummm so ok here goes... I'm from Canada, and I don't even really follow the politics here to closely, so I am not going to pretend to know what I am talking about, but I figured that I ought to put in my two cents. WHO REALLY CARES? If you are going to vote for Bush, vote for Bush, If for Kerry then vote for Kerry, or better yet, vote for a third party, but honestly, if something as insignificant as the potential that he was maybe wearing an earpiece, is going to change the way you swing, and not someting like the two candidates foreign policies, health care policies ( I'm not sure how that works in America, here we have free public health care for every citizen ) education, or "The War on Terror" etc... then why are you even voting? Maybe you should take some time to reflect on what you truly value, and what you want from your President, and then once you get your head screwed on straight make a choice.

Bush wired, I dunno, the bump looks more like a ni-cad battery pack or a receiver, but usually those are put on or around the belt, a wire to an ear piece would be so small you wouldn't see it, it certainly wouldn't leave a line under a garment. Go to your local videocamera store and ask to see a wireless LAV-microphone kit and reciever. The bump on his back is probably a dog shock collar battery and if he says anything to piss off Cheney he gets a shock. That is a joke har har.

I agree with the other guy, I'm Canadian, I'd like to add that if you people don't care how the 'outside world' views your president, then you should give your head a shake and wake up and do something about it because folks it is important.

Alarms should be going off in every reasonable minded american republican. You are in a quagmire of a war that is not nationally or internationally supported. You have the largest debt in US history, and the entire world is turning their heads to your products and businesses and tourism. I think you may be in for a big financial surprise if you keep on this course.

Since bush became elected I make a concentrated effort to avoid buying American if I can. I used to travel to the states twice a year, I probably spent $1000 or more each trip and i travelled with others on trips, and now I refuse to travel to the US and I will not give my money to the American economy where possible.

How is it possible your vice president should be in jail and no one in your country really cares?

The back device is most likely decoding and low-power retransmitting to the ear plug. Probably so-called spread spectrum technology is used for the link to the human prompter, practically not discernable in natural background noise. Otherwise it would be just too easy for skilled people to intercept or even jam transmissions (although strictly illegal, that could be fun). That's consistent with the extra package on back, since it requires some coding capabilities a standard theatre prompter ear plug can't integrate (yet). Perhaps there is a slight chance of interception in the near field of the ear plug.

Sorry, but your Americans are really stupid. Who cares about if someone is wired or not. Here in Europe we can only laugh at General Election proces. Get serious, don't act like a bunch of childeren.

A friend who works in an Executive Security equipment company told me it is a special personal security vest called XP-6. The specific details of this type vest are supposedly kept secret, but it can not only protect against bullets and a certain amount of “flack” from nearby explosives, but it has an electronic device that allows you to monitor the vital signs of the wearer and communicate with him/her electronically. Apparently it is off-limits for the presidential staff to even acknowledge the fact their bosses use this type vest.
I find it petty and desperate the “Kerryites” would stoop so low as to make fun of this; it only shows how low they have gone.

Hmmmm, if it was just a safety and vital function check device it certainly should be worn elsewhere, not just during a TV showdown with 100% security around. Someone should have observed that earlier, I think.

Wired - well it's obvious that he needs all the help he can get to answer questions. While there are those who don't think Kerry's plans are sound, they need to realize that Bush has had four years to make his work and they haven't(economy sound - just look at the stock market!) And oh by the way, it was my understanding the way to tell if a person is being truthful is determined by their eyes & George's were blinking quite rapidly in the first or second debate!

Bush better win the election...If Kerry wins this country is in for a sad...sad, state of affairs. I will move to Europe if he wins. Bush is a real man, and just because he can see and understand the average american at the average american level makes him better than Kerry. BUsh knows what the people needs...Kerry just knows what he wants. Remember, he always talks about his "plan" for the nation...but never explains it. He reminds me of Nixon with his "plan" to get us out of Vietnam, but that was total crock. I would just do a little more homework and worry about who will do the better job at being president, not who speaks better...Take me for instance...I cant speak in front of an audience to save my life. But I belive I have the goals and mindset to become president. That doesnt make me any worse of a candidate than the guy who is good at public speaking. What a dumb site..."Is Bush Wired" HOW ABOUT YOU ALL GO AND WORRY ABOUT REAL ISSUES!!!!!

It's possible it's a vest, but the White House denied he was wearing one. The truth is during an response by the president, about 2/3 of the way through his time he says "Let me finish" when no one else is talking and his light is a full 30seconds away from coming on. But, it may be a wire, or more ominously the president may be hiding some sickness.

Look here for an assortment of pics and videos. This bulge is not recent.

WHAT IS BUSH’S BRAIN DOING???

I watched as much of the final Presidential debate as I could stomach, even on the tiny browser window of the New York Times live video feed I was watching (4:00 am in somewhere in Western Europe) some thing became completely obvious...... Bush was listening to something, listening intently even sometimes as he spoke, and especially when he was first to answer the question. Importantly, anyone can see this for themselves beyond any doubt, please let me explain.

Any NLP (Neurolinguistic Programing) practitioner or any Therapist worth their salt, or for that matter any half decent Sales person, will tell you that the movement of someone eyes shows what there brain is doing. In NLP it is known as “eye accessing cues” http://www.nlpu.com/Articles/artic14.htm (also see references below).
http://www.nlp-now.co.uk/nlp_eye_accessing_cues.htm
This has been studied and proven and written about in many many Scientific Journals http://www.kevinhogan.com/NLPeyeaccess.htm
And considered common knowledge for any professional dealing day to day with the idiosyncrasies of human behavior. Movement of the eyes down ant to the left is commonly known as auditory digital that is, internal dialogue, inner self talk or intent listening.

Think of it this way, some one is having a casual conversation on a mobile phone and they look around but you can see that some of there attention is with there listening. The conversation gets serious, the head goes down and the eyes look down and usually a little to the left when they are concentrating on listening, it’s as if to block out all other input, such as visual input, to understand what they are hearing better.

This is exactly what Bush was doing looking down and a little to the left immediately after a question was asked and at that stage his words where halting and uncertain because he’s still listening, then a kind of glassy eyed stare to the side of the camera as he puts it together, still talking by rote from the coaching and if he thinks he's got it, suddenly he’s making contact with the camera and facilitator and speaking for himself ( & somewhat exitedly like a school kid who knows they have got the answer..."me..me ..")..

He’s obviously done a lot of this because he’s good at faking the communication, but the eye movements give it away beyond any doubt. These eye movements show how the brain is processing information at any moment, you can do the experiment, ask someone to listen very carefully to a song or sound your about to play for the them and watch there eyes.

Don’t be mistaken this can’t be faked , the movement of the eyes always shows what is going on in the brain. If you do try to fake it it looks strained and weird (would explain a lot about GWB) and you know that there is something hidden going on!

The point about all of this is... first of all he’s deceiving the American (and Worlds) people by presenting himself as an able debater when he’s not.... Secondly he’s obviously highly practiced in this type of deception, ie he’s a good (actually world class) liar. Thirdly he is unable to put together any sound argument on the issues by himself or to think originally when it’s urgently required (we’ve seen this before), not good credentials for a world leader with access to so much power (think of it as being like putting an idiot relative in charge of a heavy machinery). In summary we have an idiot, liar being controlled by someone more intelligent running a good part of the globe for reasons we don’t know about. (and I was already scared!)

The really interesting thing about this is.. this kind of evidence doesn't need any kind of external authority to ratify it, people can check for themselves read the data and look at the video, and you will see with different wiser eyes. Tell everyone!
(Another good reality check i picked up from another blog, watch the video with the sound off, that makes it very clear)

Feel free to copy disseminate or quote this writing in any way, do not however misrepresent it dishonestly, condemn it out of hand or butcher any of it’s content in any way, or I guarantee that the divine spirit of truth will reek it’s karmic revenge on you with your dying breath (or quite possibly before that). Just be content to criticize the grammar and amateurish sentence construction and feel free to use any spelling mistakes to make yourself feel superior.

Basic NLP Eye Accessing Cues

As a result of these studies, and many hours of observations of people from different cultures and racial backgrounds from all over the world, the following eye movement patterns were identified (Dilts, 1976, 1977; Grinder, DeLozier and Bandler, 1977; Bandler and Grinder, 1979; Dilts, Grinder, Bandler and DeLozier, 1980):

Eyes Up and Left: Non-dominant hemisphere visualization - i.e., remembered imagery (Vr).
Eyes Up and Right: Dominant hemisphere visualization - i.e., constructed imagery and visual fantasy (Vc).
Eyes Lateral Left: Non-dominant hemisphere auditory processing - i.e., remembered sounds, words, and "tape loops" (Ar) and tonal discrimination.
Eyes Lateral Right: Dominant hemisphere auditory processing - i.e., remembered sounds and words (Ac) and "tape loops" (such as nursery rhymes), as well as tonal discrimination.
Eyes Down and Left: Internal dialogue, or inner self-talk (Ad).
Eyes Down and Right: Feelings, both tactile and visceral (K).
Eyes Straight Ahead, but Defocused or Dilated: Quick access of almost any sensory information; but usually visual.

This pattern appears to be constant for right handed people throughout the human race (with the possible exception of the Basques, whose population appears to contain a fair number of 'exceptions to the rule'). Subsequent studies (Loiselle, 1985 and Buckner, Reese and Reese, 1987) have supported the NLP claim that eye movements both reflect and influence key cognitive componants of thought. Many left handed people, however, tend to be reversed from left to right. That is, their eye accessing cues are the mirror image of those of the average right hander. They look down and left for feelings, instead of down and right. Similarly, they look up and to the right to remember visual imagery, instead of up and to the left, and so on. A small number of people (including ambidextrous and a few right handed people) will be reversed in their some of their eye accessing cues (their visual eye movements, for example), but not the others.

To explore the relationship between eye movements and thinking for yourself, find a partner, ask the following questions, and observe his or her eye movements. For each question keep track of your partner's eye movements in one of the boxes (following the questions below) by using marks, lines or numbers that represent the sequence of positions you observe.

1. Visual Remembered: Think of the color of your car. What kind of pattern is on your bedspread? Think of the last time you saw someone running. Who were the first five people you saw this morning?
2. Visual Construction: Imagine an outline of yourself as you might look from six feet above us and see it turning into a city skyline. Can you imagine the top half of a toy dog on the bottom half of a green hippopotamus?
3. Auditory Remembered: Can you think of one of your favorite songs? Think of the sound of clapping. How does your car's engine sound?
4. Auditory Constructed: Imagine the sound of a train's whistle changing into the sound of pages turning. Can you hear the sound of a saxophone and the sound of your mother's voice at the same time?
5. Auditory Digital (Internal Self Talk): Take a moment and listen to the sound of your own inner voice. How do you know it is your voice? In what types of situations do you talk to yourself the most? Think of the kinds of things that you say to yourself most often.
6. Kinesthetic Remembered: (Tactile) When was the last time you felt really wet? Imagine the feelings of snow in your hands. What does a pine cone feel like? When was the last time you touched a hot cooking utensil? (Visceral/Emotional) Can you think of a time you felt satisfied about something you completed? Think of what it feels like to be exhausted. When was the last time you felt impatient?
7. Kinesthetic Construction: (Tactile) Imagine the feelings of stickiness turning into the feelings of sand shifting between your fingers. Imagine the feelings of dog's fur turning into the feelings of soft butter. (Visceral/Emotional) Imagine the feelings of frustration turning into the feeling of being really motivated to do something. Imagine the feeling of being bored turning into feeling silly about feeling bored.

It is important to keep in mind, as you are observing and tracking eye movements, that many people will already have habitual eye movements, related to their primary representational modality. A highly visual person may tend to look up and to the left or right, regardless of which sensory modality is assumed by your question. If you ask such a person to think of his or her "favorite song," the person may visualize the cover of the record, tape or CD in order to remember the name of the song. A kinesthetically oriented person may look down and check his or her feelings to determine how he or she feels about several songs in order to know which one is his or her "favorite." Thus it is important to ask people what they actually did in their minds as they were answering the questions in order to get an accurate sense of what their eye movements signified.

Once you feel confident in eye movements as accessing cues, and in your ability to "read" them, there are many ways they can be used. As was mentioned earlier, habitual eye movements reflect a person's preferred sensory modality. If you ask someone, "What is something that is really important to you? Think of it now," the placement of the person's eyes as he or she is answering your question will probably tell you a lot about that person's most valued representational system.

Eye movements can also be used to determine how truthful or congruent a person is being. If a person is describing an event that he or she has witnessed or participated in, for instance, the person's eyes should move primarily to his or her left (if the person is right handed), indicating memory access. If the person looks up and to the right a lot, however, it is likely that the person is constructing or reconstructing some aspect of the experience he or she is describing. This may indicate that the person is either uncertain or being untruthful about what he or she is saying.
The most common application of eye positions in NLP is to determine the representational strategies a person is using in order to think or make a decision. Since many aspects of people's thinking processes are unconscious to them, spontaneous eye movements can be an extremely important part of eliciting and modeling a person's inner strategies for decision making, learning, motivation, memory, etc.

I would like to learn more re spread spectrum technology as a way of hiding the frequencies used. Surely there is special technology available to detect the signal in the background noise-- perhaps to jam it? An alternative is to send, from time to time, a sudden, loud high-pitched tone across all frequencies that are not accounted for by known signals-- ie across the background.

An America split upon itself is not a stronger America.

Our republican leaders have proclaimed that Americans must vilify the 'dems, the liberals, the gays and so on, in order to prey on our fears to capitalize on these fears, turning them IN TO votes. I reject this absolutely because I know in my heart that a divided America is a weaker America and that a united America is a stronger America. United I must stand, in honor of my country, I stand with all Americans and reject the wayward winds that I must hate my neighbor, my friend or my family member based solely on race, sexual or political alignment. Our circles of friends, our families and our communities are being turned upon themselves in this most unpatriotic of fashions. I promise to do my patriotic duty and focus my perspective on the commonalities that bind ALL Americans. Our common ambition for a better quality of life and the strength of our differences are what holds this nation together in the most trying of times, and America, we have seen such times indeed.

The spoils of war have become too easily come by.

It was an insidious treachery when our financial institutions became so infested with insider trading that waning public confidence in the machine of our nations economy caused it to nearly halt. Now the appearance of the same form of insider dealing in the form of several billion dollar no-bid war contracts at a consulting firm that our vice president served as CEO up to his announcement to campaign for the position he now holds. This behavior as in the financial institutions, seems to be as widespread within our Government, as can be seen in the case of Darleen Druyun, a former Air Force official involved in the multibillion dollar Air Force contract tanker negotiations who later went to work for Boeing. These back room dealings buy not only multibillion dollar contracts, they can also buy immunity. Take for instance the case of First Energy and the blackout of 2003. Our leaders pointed to our neighbors to the north, when our very own federal energy agents in the field knew that the culprit was none other than a keystone member of our vice president's secret energy circle. I have a plan for fair governance of all such contracts that will reinstate public faith in our governments fiscal dealings and provide a broader array of opportunities for government contractors with fair-governance certifications. America... I have... a plan.

Whatever became of fiscal conservatism?

Where has fiscal conservatism gone and does it require an epitaph. Under GWB, America has overextended, overspent, under saved, over-outsourced, and just plain simply stated, has laid down before corporate interests by turning a blind eye to national interests. NAFTA is a grand piece of legislature which has helped to bring about a wave of rising quality of life in countries where such opportunities did not before exist. However, this wonderful piece of legislature needs amending to close the gate on disappearing American opportunities that are seemingly evaporating from America's employment landscape. Petty token tax rebates, rewriting of tax breaks preferential to the top ONE percent, blank check contracts, surrendering of our environmental interests to corporate interests and so on. We have seen attempts at fiscal solutions that seem at best, overly simplistic and lacking in followthrough and execution. GWB ought to be able to answer this question... did ANYONE in your administration... really THINK these policies through – and if so – why IS? our economy and job outlook – So – Off – Target? Our administration will work WITH industry leaders and foreign interests to diplomatically arrive at a solution that benefits each party as much as possible while putting America's interests at a priority. We have... a plan.

To what degree does this administration intend to test the collective back of the struggling American worker?

To speak of our current jobless Americans, out-of-workers classified by our government as "Discouraged" These upstanding Americans are wanting to come off the sidelines in hopes of simply maintaining their current quality of life. They try to do so as their benefits have become the burden of those fortunate enough to be employed. Although this is not due to any capricious behavior on the part of the insurers, the system has become so inefficient that it has become a burdensome beast that can be seen to SOMETIMES interfere with patients rights and also produces a negative impact upon America's recovery efforts by way of distribution of the rising costs on to the backs of the American workforce. My administration will work WITH industry leaders and EXISTING government regulatory bodies to produce a more efficient system that addresses both the interests of the insurers AND the interests of the American PEOPLE.

Why would Bush wear a bullet proof vest and leave his head exposed? If some one REALLY wanted to kill him, they could just pop him right in the head. Besides, bullet-proof vests would give Bush an all over bulky appearance rather than just in the back. Yes, batteries have come a long way, but with the earpiece comes the transmitter. Haven't you seen the clip-on mircophones that the talk show hosts wear? They are about the same size as the bulges on Bush's back. Its time for all the Bush cronies to face the truth: your beloved president is nothing more than a monkey on a string.

An earlier poster commenting on this subject said: "Nws Flash: Presidents don't write their own speeches. What's the difference between memorizing something and reciting it later and getting streaming prompts? Nothing. Give me a break."

Well, since the poster is voting for Bush, which is made clear by his "BUSH/CHENEY '04" tag at the bottom of his post, obviously he can't see the correlation. It seems to me that having a live stream would make it a lot easier to actively rebut any of the opposition's arguments. Are you kidding me? IT'S OBVIOUS WHAT THE DIFFERENCE IS.

What baffles me the most is how people can vote for Bush. I'm not for a second saying that Kerry is the best candidate for the job either, but the world is in complete disarray under our current administration. It's like Bush supporters are putting their hands over their eyes and plugging their ears, and not even using their brains for that matter. But for what?? Do they have rocks in their heads? Don't watch CNN or FOX News -- listen to some real unbiased world news for a change, specifically NPR, and you will hear for yourself what is really going on today on Earth.

To end this post, I will use a quote from the Arizona Daily Wildcat online newspaper about the conservative author Ann Coulter who recently spoke at the state college. The journalist writes, "[Ms. Coulter] told the audience to vote for Bush because she said it won't matter if they agree or disagree with him, ultimately the American people can decide on important issues." Once again, absolutely no correlation! How does that make any sense? How do people buy this garbage, especially our young, sharp people of today? I thought that by voting, I would be deciding on important issues, instead of sitting helplessly on my couch, watching our men die overseas. I guess I should just take Ms. Coulter's advice and throw away my vote on Bush, turn a blind eye and he'll take care of the rest! Enough said.

They said on GMA this am that youg men and women are going into the service by droves. Have they thought it's because these young people can't find decent paying jobs out here. They talk about more jobs out here, well it's service jobs, like working at McDonalds and etc. People can't make it on one job so they have to work 2 or 3. Our American jobs are all being sent over seas. I read one time people buy foriegn cars and feel good driving them. When I look at them I think there isn't anything good about it. They are taking American jobs from the American people. Gas is going up so high there is a lot of people who can't buy it to even go to work. The youg ones figure they should go ahead and go to the service. Older people just go to work and do nothing else. The President and the Vice President are oil men, they are both from money. They don't care or even understand. There will be the RICH and Poor people in the US, no more middle class soon very soon. I could go on and on. But whats the use.
